Language use in online support provision: the impact of others’ supportive messages, support-seeking strategy, and channel publicness

Abstract People benefit from high-quality supportive messages online, yet the production of these is a complex process that shaped by multiple factors. As informed lens model, this study seeks to investigate interplay third party’s as form behavioral residue and support seeker’s seeking strategy an identity claim on providers’ language use in conveyed public private channels online. Data showed words differentiate varying quality (i.e., first-person singular pronouns, second-person social words, cognitive anxiety words) was influenced quantity others’ comments, support-seeking strategy, publicness communication channel interactive way. Findings extend literature providing more comprehensive account online illuminating actual used others.
